Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 12: The Reckoning #4

Here’s where it all ends. (At least, I assume, for a while.)

Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 12: The Reckoning #4 is the last Dark horse Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic after a twenty-year run. And, as expected, it’s a beautiful finale. The slayer legacy is in danger from a crazed young boy from the future who’s put together a demon army. There’s a substantial battle, full of characters from all over the Whedonverse (Fray, Angel, Faith, Illyria, throwbacks to classic TV seasons), and then there are peeks of what would make for a pleased ending for numerous of them.

No spoilers here, but Georges Jeanty pencils and Karl Story, Andy Owens, and Dexter Vines ink a whole bunch of beloved characters, doing a terrific job from the supernatural to the mundane. This is the kind of thing that justifies the comic adaptation, because staging all this with real actors and special effects would be crazy and expensive. and writer Christos Gage (sharing story credit report with Joss Whedon himself) is fantastic at conveying what I liked about the series: determination, sacrifice, terrific friendships, dramatic relationships, tear-jerking moments, beating up idiots, and giving us hope for the future.

GEEK GOGGLE REVIEWS: BATMAN #29

Brandon Borzelli’s Geek Goggle Reviews

Batman #29
DC Comics
Snyder, Capullo & Miki

The most current problem of Batman returns the book to the “Year Zero” arc as well as returns the book to the five dollar cost point, albeit for a forty-page comic. The arc with the Riddler seems to have wrapped up with a great checked out that delivers the normal high high quality storytelling as well as outstanding artwork that we have come to understand from Snyder as well as Capullo. The comic is punctuated a lot more since it’s a discovering experience for Batman rather than the normal successful closure the visitor may be accustomed to. This is one more great problem to pick up.
The comic book excels when it pertains to the final confrontations. Gordon goes against the Riddler, while being satisfied with resistance from his partner, the crooked Corrigan. While Gordon tries to match wits with the Riddler, Batman tries to foil part of the Riddler’s plan as well as is satisfied with physician Death.

The legendary Batman tales all seem to include an x-factor that makes the battle a bit tougher for the Caped Crusader to master. this takes location atop a weather condition balloon with several factors, including a incredibly storm as well as a race against different plot devices, that make the battle a genuine tension filled drama.

The comic likewise handles to capture in some moments between Bruce Wayne as well as his parents, Batman as well as Alfred as well as Batman as well as Gordon. all of these interfaces aren’t Earth-shattering however they do assist to frame up the events of the issue, particularly the ending.

The artwork is genuinely amazing. The comic is action heavy as well as the artwork assists raise the action into something special as well as memorable. The coloring assists present a comic that is rich in tones that push along emotions as well as story themes in methods that are not generally seen in comics. Capullo likewise pays some homage to previous Batman works, such as Frank Miller, which bring a familiarity to the scenes in a traditional way. just choosing up the book as well as checking out the photos provides you a total story as well as that is stating something.

Batman is one of the very best books available today as well as is DC’s strongest book by far considering that the inception of the new 52. This specific problem ties up a great deal of the Year Zero storylines that have been cooking for a while now. The comic doesn’t reinvent anything in the Batman mythos however augments some adventures to his already rich history. This is a extremely great problem as well as is one I suggest inspecting out. Where does Snyder go from here?

BREAKING: Standoff between Sony and Disney Threatens Spider-Man’s Future in the MCU

Standoff between Sony and Disney VS Spider-Man’s Future in the MCU

For months, fans and insiders alike awaited the news that Sony and marvel Studios extended their unprecedented deal to share the Spider-Man character. However, news broke on Tuesday that a standoff between Sony and Disney may successfully end Spider-Man’s participation in the marvel Cinematic Universe. This comes as a shock, with at least one a lot more motion picture rumored to be a part of the original deal. It was contingent on Spider-Man: far From home earning a billion dollars, which it did.

The largest result of the standoff between Sony and Disney is that marvel Studios mastermind Kevin Feige will no longer produce the Spider-Man films, according to Deadline. The trade reports that director Jon Watts and star Tom Holland are signed on for two a lot more Spidey films. fans took to social media to express their sadness, with Sony taking a lot of of their ire. Also, Sony’s stock dipped ideal when they expected it to go up with their purchase of Insomniac games, the studio behind the popular Spider-Man game for PS4. Let’s break down what we know.

The original deal For Spider-Man

When Sony and Disney struck their deal to share the character, Spider-Man’s future in general remained in doubt. The last film in the original series disappointed as did the reboot starring Andrew Garfield. Sony originally intended for a shared marvel universe of their own, but it fell apart with the failure of remarkable Spider-Man 2. So, marvel Studios proposed a deal unlike any ever struck between two competing studios.

Marvel Studios would get to use Spider-Man in the Avengers films, and they would keep all the money. Sony, however, would finance the solo films and keep nearly all of those profits, while marvel Studios creatives would help shape and direct the story for five percent of the gross. Also, it must be noted, that Disney owns all of the merchandising rights for Spider-Man. any merch based on Sony motion pictures goes to the company, but it’s not like there is a single deposit account for all things Spider-Man.

Yet, considering that this deal happened, Sony turned things around. They released the Tom Hardy-vehicle Venom, which shocked everyone by earning about as much as Spider-Man: Homecoming did. (On half the budget, no less.) They also put out the animated hit Spider-Man: into the Spider-Verse, introducing the Miles Morales character to film for the first time and creating a shared universe of spider-characters. So, they may feel that they no longer need the larger MCU to help support Spider-Man, especially considering that casual moviegoers will not realize the change by the time a third Spidey film hits theaters. (And Sony just announced a re-release of far From home with new footage.)

What caused the Standoff between Sony and Disney?

As everyone’s grandmother once told them, money is the root of all evil. The standoff between Sony and Disney is one over profits. Specifically, Disney asking to split financing of the Spider-Man solo films. They wanted a 50/50 arrangement, whereby Sony would only reap half the profits from the solo films, while still not earning profits on Spider-Man’s guest appearances in other MCU films. Deadline reports that Sony proposed a counteroffer that Disney declined. Outraged fans made Spider-Man-related phrases the top five trending topics on Twitter in the US. a lot of of them, it seems, blame Sony when it appears that Disney is the one who’s being intransigent about the financial arrangement. Of course, the source for Deadline’s report may want to frame the story that way, so we won’t know for sure until we hear something a lot more official.

Still, this puts Sony’s next Spider-Man film in a hard place, considering that far From home both set Spider-Man up as Tony Stark’s spiritual successor and revealed his identity to the world. The MCU doesn’t really do secret identities, and that development came from them, according to Watts. Yet, Sony likely reasons that the next film will do just as well at least the first Spider-Man did because Watts and Holland “set the tone” of these motion pictures just fine without Feige. The also would allow the Holland version of the character to cross over with Venom and the other Sony marvel films. They were reportedly in talks to bring those characters into the MCU as well, yet Sony and Disney executives could never really agree on that point. However, io9 reports this is simply about “a producer credit,” and nothing more. It appears Sony may be already backpedaling.

Is This the end of Spider-Man in the MCU?

If the standoff between Sony and Disney continues, Spider-Man will likely be done in the MCU. However, these high-level, rights discussions can take a long, long time. The negotiations are still ongoing, according to enjoyment Weekly. any Spider-Man sequel is only just in the development phase, which gives the other executives time for cooler heads to prevail. before this deal happened, enjoyment professionals and insiders scoffed at the idea that Spider-Man would ever end up in the MCU. So, the possibility remains that these two mega-entertainment groups can work things out before its too late. Ultimately, if this happens, it will happen because of pressure from the market. Either the fans, Sony’s investors, or both will send a loud enough signal to Sony that without Feige and the rest of the MCU, they are less interested in spider-films.

Still, even if this is the end of Spider-Man in the MCU, fans can be thankful for what we got. Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is one of the most comics-accurate portrayals of the character. His roles in Captain America: Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame were wonderful, and fans thrilled at seeing Spidey swing in to fight Thanos with the rest of the Avengers crew. As marvel prepares to take their shared universe in a new direction without Iron Man, Cap, and lots of other original Avengers, they can maybe use another character to fill Spider-Man’s role in those plans.

Spider-Fans speak Out!

Many people took to Twitter to express their outrage at the breakdown of negotiations. While some blame Disney, a lot of blame Sony.

Not only has sony made a horrible decision, it makes absolutely ZERO sense to pull him out of the mcu when a huge part of his story arc was based on Tony Stark who is apart of the fucking mcu and everything that’s happened so far is a huge part of the canon mcu story. pic.twitter.com/fKJaW7KJ91

BARTON CARROLL-Avery County, I’m Bound to You

Avery County, I’m Bound to You, is the fourth album from singer/songwriter Barton Carroll, who built up a steady North Carolina fanbase when he used to play with Crooked Fingers. I can’t say I’ve heard his stuff before, but I love this record. It’s full of variety, extremely interesting music, and wonderful lyrics.

The bilingual country/folk single “It had to be a Train” is as catchy as hell, but without relying overmuch on the chorus. Actually, it’s the accordion line that kept running through my head (ahem) like a train. All his songs are like that–like complex pop songs. Where most pop singers sell you on the hook, Carroll uses the hook as an anchor, or a jump-off point, while he drifts purposefully through themes and riffs off of that common ground.

I can’t praise this enough. check it out.

OK. Not really new Marley and Beatles. new covers. but still….Anyway, let’s start with Audio Push=Some pretty cool new hip hop, off a major label. It’s not often the majors release music that seems to be pushing the envelope (although it happens a lot more in rap than in any other genre).

JJ Abrams Announces first HBO Max Series, including Justice league Dark

It’s been some months since JJ Abrams brought bad Robot to WarnerMedia in a $250 million deal that was less than he was offered by other studios. one of the reasons why Abrams turned down a bigger payday is so he could play with some of Warner Bros. best toys, meaning the DC Comics line of characters. Well, a new announcement from WarnerMedia revealed the first three series that bad Robot will produce, including one hotly anticipated series for DC Comics’ fans. along with a series about a getaway driver and a Stephen King adaptation, JJ Abrams will bring Justice league Dark to HBO Max in a live-action series.

JJ Abrams will tackle more Than Justice league Dark for HBO Max

image by Gage Skidmore via Flickr

Along with the DC property, bad Robot will work on two new series for the streaming service. There is Duster, whose pilot will be co-written by Abrams and LaToya Morgan. set in the 1970s, the series follows a getaway driver for a crime syndicate in the American southwest. The second series will be Overlook, a spin-off of The Shining and doctor sleep by Stephen King. Castle rock alums Dustin Thomason and Scott brown will lead this series. details are scarce, but our bet is that the 10-episode series follows a young Dick Hallorann and his adventures at the haunted hotel.

Finally, rounding out the three series announcement, is that JJ Abrams will bring Justice league Dark to HBO Max in their first-ever live-action outing. Unlike the main Justice League, Justice league Dark deals with more magical threats. Fan-favorite characters like John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Zatanna, and Deadman are usually a part of the group. One has to wonder if the Justice league Dark series will be a joint production of HBO Max and DC universe as they are doing with Doom Patrol. Though, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the “fate of DC universe as a home for scripted originals remains murky, at best.” Still, with the second season of the animated Harley Quinn series currently airing, and Stargirl about to premiere (shared, of course, with the CW), DC universe is still trucking along.

HBO Max’s launch date will likely be in the summer (though maybe pushed up with everyone at home). WarnerMedia will announce its premiere in mid-to-late May. It will be home to classic series like pals as well as feature scripted originals like Dune and a new series based on green Lantern.

What do you think? Are you excited to see JJ Abrams take on Justice league Dark for HBO Max? tell us in the comments below.
